Violin Concerto No. 2 "Highlander" – Jan Adam Maklakiewicz
Concert "Composers’ Inspirations with Highlander Folklore" with participation of the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw conducted by Michał Klauza, solo violinist Katarzyna Lassak and a traditional highlander band – Music of the Lassak „Helios” Family from Zakopane, has a unique formula combining traditional performance of folklore music of the Podhale region with the works by Polish composers of classical music. The careful selection of repertoire is intended to present the relationship of compositions for classical instrumentation – symphony orchestra with the source melodies that inspired the authors. Alongside Wojciech Kilar's Orawa, full of highlander exuberance, we will listen to Jan A. Maklakiewicz's Violin Concerto No. 2 "Highlander" – the performance of which falls on the 70th anniversary of the work's creation in Zakopane. In the concerto we will hear the quoted highlander melody, which is the "anthem" / "festival song" of the International Festival of Highland Folklore. The solo part will be performed by violinist Katarzyna Lassak, a highlander from Zakopane, who made the first recording of the work in 2021 with the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw. The Lassak Family "Helios" from Zakopane, which continues multi-generational musical traditions, will perform highlander melodies that inspired the composers.
